In a region where grain brandy is traditionally made from grain, we have dedicated ourselves with great passion to the production of our own single malt: the First Hanseatic Single Malt Van Loon. Distilleries from all over the world have proven that outstanding single malts can also be produced outside of Scotland - so there's no question that we've also entered the race here. Since 2012, we have been producing our single malt whisky Van Loon, with which we simultaneously honor Scotland's centuries-old tradition, but also offer something new of northern German origin.
In our distillery we produce our single malt from 100% barley malt, distill it in small batches and let it mature in oak barrels with a maximum volume of 225 liters in our wooden barrel warehouse. Thanks to the variety of casks, our single malt comes up trumps with completely new flavor profiles. Our range consists of two very different whiskies: The Van Loon Single Malt and the Peated Van Loon Single Malt, working with different casks during maturation and finishing.
The whisky family is completed by our highly aromatic whisky liqueurs.
Wondering how our whiskies got their names? As a truly extraordinary wedding gift, the distiller and founder Birgitta dedicated her first Hanseatic whisky to her husband, whose last name is Van Loon.
